Tea Kettles Should Be Used For Boiling Water

Thursday 11 March 2010 @ 3:07 pm

Is it possible for you to taste the difference between boiled and microwave water? Most of the tea connoisseurs are often on a hunt to find the best tasting cup of tea available. Often the loose over bagged blends of tea are the type of tea that was considered in this regards.

How the water is boiled is what matters in rest of the times. So by boiling water in a microwave, you are just wasting a part of an expensive loose blend of white tea. There are many methods of boiling water, including the various electric and stovetop tea kettles, a sauce pan, and a microwave.

Microwave is the least favored among all the options available for boiling water. Inside a microwave the heat gets the water to boil, so does any ordinary kettle or even a sauce pan, for that matter. Water boiled in a microwave is often thought to have a warmed over or lukewarm taste and even has an artificial or plastic aftertaste.

According to many people this might be enough for making a quick cup of tea in the morning. However microwave is not suitable for boiling water to steep in a teapot. So you would want to boil the water in a separate place, so that it can be poured inside the teapot to steep for a few minutes. It is not advisable to put the teapots in a microwave because many teapots are ceramic or porcelain.

So the tea kettle is the best and efficient method of boiling water. Stovetop and electric tea kettles are the two options in the market. Neither of these needs to be placed in the microwave. When placed on a stovetop or plugged into an outlet they will automatically heat up.

These days’ electric tea kettles are the best choice to boil water. Moreover these modern accessories have a filter inside to reduce any mineral deposits. The built up of minerals inside a stovetop tea kettle or an ordinary sauce pan is said to give a metallic aftertaste, as well.

How To Choose the Perfect Barbecue For Your Outdoor Kitchen

Thursday 11 March 2010 @ 3:12 am

There’s nothing quite like outdoor cooking, complete with the perfect barbecue and grilling accessories, to take care of that hunger. The wonder of a superb over-the-coals cooked meal is often followed by the decision to buy a barbecue. With so many outdoor grills on the market, in every size, style and price range, this decision can lead to a variety of practical concerns.

One of the first things to consider is the size of grill that will best suit your needs and budget. The size you need will be determined by how often you’ll use your outdoor kitchen and how many people you’ll be feeding. If you often host big parties, you’ll need a sizeable barbecue with a cooking area of 800 inches or more and extra space to hold a large amount of food. If you only entertain large groups occasionally, then a grill with a medium to large area that can cook 25-40 burgers at once and has some working space may be all you need. For most families, 350 square inches of cooking space should be adequate.

When settling on the right size of barbecue, the types of food you intend to cook should also be taken into account. Obviously, a full sized turkey will require more space than smaller items like hamburgers and hot dogs. Furthermore, if you often employ add-ons such as rotisserie attachments, larger vegetable, fish or other specialty baskets for cooking delicate foods, or smoker baskets for wood chips, additional space within the grill may be required.

Before buying a barbecue, you will also need to decide which features are “must haves” for you. A side burner will let you fry, saute or boil foods in a pot or skillet while you grill. Multiple cooking racks can allow you to cook vegetables or other foods via indirect heat while meat sears directly over the flames. Finally, consider the sophistication of your cooking skills. Novice outdoor cooks may just need the basics, but advanced barbecue chefs may desire additional controls, accessories and features to fine-tune their technique.

Barbecues range considerably in price, starting at smaller, travel-friendly charcoal options that are quite economical. You might prefer to start with a basic charcoal brazier for around $50. However, if you want to begin with a full kitchen type of grill that has lots of features, you can purchase a reputable model for $500 or less.

If you are really serious about outdoor cooking, then you know that accessories such as tool sets are a must. These sets generally contain grilling tools such as long handled heat resistant forks, tongs, skewers, turners, and corncob holders. In addition, many styles of rotisserie attachments for grills have hit the market lately. Other useful tools might include grate lifters, basting brushes, hooks and meat thermometers for large cuts of meat to assure that the food is cooked perfectly. And finally, don’t forget those wood chips to add flavor to whatever food you are cooking.

For great BBQ accessories to enhance any grill, visit Rib-O-Lator. They feature the award-winning Rib-O-Lator rotisserie attachment, with a unique 4-tray design that gives more cooking space and can cook many different types of foods. Also offering the FlavorDome grill smoking system for wood chips, and Grill-Mor seasonings for barbecuing food to perfection. Powered by SEO 2.0 Services

Bollywood Remains Integral to Asian Culture

Wednesday 10 March 2010 @ 4:59 pm

The two great ancient epics of India, the Ramayana and the Mahabharata have provided a foundation for the burgeoning of Indian commercial cinema, that later came to be known as Bollywood.

Early Indian cinema took on the role of delivering a distinct moral code particularly when the Mahatma Gandhi-led national movement was at its peak. It was unsurprising that most Bollywood directors and screenplay writers were partial to the Gandhian philosophy. Many directors were passionate about making their films a vehicle for messages of social reform.

Mahatma Gandhi had many social concerns and the films that came out during his era reflected many of them. For instance in Dil Ek Mandir the underlying story was about the oppression of women in family and society. Caste based inequalities were tackled in films like Sujata, Acchut and Haasil. And most prominent perhaps which seems to form the basis of most Bollywood films even today, is the divide between rich and poor, as depicted in films like Pyaasa, Lawaaris and Jaagte Raho.

In more recent times, Bollywood’s appeal has turned commercial. Just as in the West, many people like to read about the lives of their screen idols in Grazia or Heat magazines, in which pages are filled with celebrity diets, fitness regimes and DVDs, fans of Bollywood actors and actresses fall over themselves to emulate the lives of their screen icons whether it be their clothes, makeup, dance styles or workout regimes.

In India the trend to emulate the lives of Bollywood screen idols is evidentially extreme. Take the Bollywood actress Kareena Kapoor who dropped down to a size zero. Last year, her nutritionist brought out a book revealing Kareena’s way to diet to size zero. Suddenly women in India were obsessed with becoming the ultimate size zero, which is frowned upon certainly in Western catwalks. Traditionally Indian women are celebrated for their natural curviness however this is no longer the norm.

Food Processors Are A Chef’s Best Friend

Wednesday 10 March 2010 @ 4:26 pm

Chopping, dicing, and blending food has never been easier than it is with food processors. There are even those that have the horsepower to mix up baking ingredients or knead bread dough. Processors come in several different sizes and most will hold about 2 to 14 cups of chopped food.

Food Processors save a lot of time in the kitchen because they will chop in much less time that you can do it manually. Most processors have different blades and can dice, slice, and chop. They have a clear bowl made of plastic that snaps into a platform. There is a plastic lid that snaps on to the bowl that has a chute where the food can be introduced to the processor. Inside the bowl is a rod where the blades are attached.

Professional use processors have a variety of different types of blades. There are the disc blades that look like a big circle that fits right under the lid of the bowl. This disc will grate, slice or shred. Place the food down the chute and the blade cuts and allows it to fall into the bowl underneath. They can have a whisk, dough blade, French fry cutter, julienne disc or a juicer. The other important blade is the one that has a shaft in the center that fits into the shaft in the bowl and has two blades that emerge from each side. This blade is situated at the bottom of the unit and chops, blends and purees.

It is a luxury to have a processor that will dice onions without getting the scent all over your hands. You only have to quickly take the skin off and maybe cut the onion once in half and the processor does everything else. To grate Parmesan or mozzarella you just place the shredding disc on and feed the cheese down the feeder.

Make baby food in a processor and be sure you know all the ingredients that are going into the mouth of your child. Put some onions, garlic, tomatoes and peppers in and puree. Place the combination in a pan and heat it up adding a few other herbs and some sugar and you have spaghetti sauce. Instead of going to the grocery store and getting sauce and many other things you can make them yourself and be sure of the ingredients that are going into them.

Most processors only have one speed but some of the better brands do have more. Processors are safe to use because the blade will not spin unless you have the lid securely snapped onto the bowl and then your fingers cannot get in the way. If it is not placed on correctly the blades do not move. There will be no finger cuts using a machine. After everything has been chopped up you must remove the blade to get to the food. But, you do not have to worry about being injured because the lid is now off and the motor will not run.

One of the best things about using a processor is that the clean up is quick and easy. You can place blades, bowl, and lid into the dishwasher and let them go. You will have to hand wipe the unit down as the motor cannot be immersed in water.

You get what you pay for in food processors. A high end, expensive machine will do just about everything. A mid range processor is probably good for most households and will do what you need it to do to produce very good recipes. The smaller and cheaper brands will not take much capacity nor do they have great power. If the only thing you need it for is to chop a few vegetables to make stew then they will work well. If you need to chop large quantities or blend heavy substances they will not work for you.

A lot of shoppers buy a Kitchenaid food processor since it’s a well known brand, but other brands like Viking, Braun, and Hamilton Beach all make quality products, too. The best food processor is the one that satisfies your individual needs, so make sure you’re buying what you need and not just what’s on sale.

Dark Chocolate Happens To Be Better Alternative

Wednesday 10 March 2010 @ 3:48 pm

Ask anyone what their favorite guilty pleasure is, and the overwhelming response will be chocolate. We just can’t get enough of the stuff; milk, white, fruity, we love all of it. All we need now is a healthy chocolate do we can enjoy it without the guilt.

Well you probably didn’t know this but there is, and it still contains the good stuff such as the minerals and antioxidants. It doesn’t however, have all the bad stuff in it.

This is dark chocolate, which is basically chocolate without all the fattening ingredients such as milk solids and cocoa butter and a bucket load of sugar! There is a low fat, bitter chocolate which is even better for you, but there’s one thing that you should know.

Our bodies do not recognize chocolate as food, weird huh? Eat a bar of chocolate on its own and your body will pick up on the sugar etc and just store it, and the minerals and vitamins won’t be absorbed.

It’s a little known fact that dark chocolate has a very high iron content; so a perfect complement is food such a blueberries which are rich in vitamin C. This balances the nutrition and makes sure that your body absorbs the iron from the chocolate properly, and tastes delicious at the same time.

But if you take in other stuff such as fruit or nuts at the same time it will then treat the chocolate as food and you will then get the benefits.

For a chocolate fanatic, I once had the perfect job; as a chocolatier. Temptation was rife, but I stuck to dark chocolate and complemented it with vitamin C rich foods like nuts, dried fruits etc. When I had a routine blood test, it showed that the levels of vitamins and minerals were the best they had ever been, and even better, I put no weight on.

Next time you need your chocolate fix, ignore the fattening and unhealthy milk chocolate and reach for the dark chocolate with the fruit and nuts. No guilt but every bit as delicious.

One last thing, just because you know it’s healthier doesn’t mean you can pig out, be sensible!

Aside from chocolate, this writer also frequently shares writing on metal roofing materials and metal roofing manufacturers.
